Elaborate pieces of music that turned into popular alternatives to mainstream music have been written by some gospel writers. Gospel music is written to be sung by a choir or individual singer with only the gospel piano accompaniment most often. Variety in Gospel Music
There can be numerous types of gospel music written. Southern gospel is usually sung a cappella by a quartet of men. You can tap into the traditional sound of Appalachian music by writing Bluegrass gospel. Music with a country sound may appeal to you. Urban contemporary gospel can be written by those that enjoy the sound of rock and roll combined with Christian beliefs. Try taking various types of gospel music and combining into one piece if you are ambitious.

It is entirely up to you the amount of gospel piano that you include in the piece of gospel music you compose. Starting with the melody first is the best way to successfully add the gospel piano to the composition you write. The chords you want to use to capture the sound of the melody once you have figured out the melody.
