There are basically two options when wanting to learn how to play the piano. After years of going to a classical piano teacher, learning to read sheet music and music theory you can start playing properly. You could want to play the music of your favorit bands. Now it is possible to learn to play the piano without knowing how to read sheet music or having a lot of music theory. You will be able to make your own piano chords after you have learned to play chords on the piano.
Basic Notes of the Keyboard
With all those black and white keys the piano can look daunting at first. Before beginning to learn playing piano chords there is some basic logic behind the notes to learn. The piano has twelve unique keys. Notes from C to B (C, D, E, F, G, A, B) are on the white keys. A group of three black keys follow a group of two black keys. Following a group of three black keys is a white key with the note of B which is the last one. Since the five black keys are based on the white keys around them they are fairly easy to memorize. You can raise a note by a half note for example C to get the sharp use the black key right after it. Or you can have a flat note. The flat operator takes the note down half a note. The D flat is the black key right before the D. There is only half a note between the B-C and E-F as opposed to the whole note between the other major notes.
Several notes played at once are piano chords. The triads and 7th chords are the most common and basic chords. You can come up with a major or minor chord with a triad. C-E-G or G-B-D are common major chords. Memorize that the major piano chords are constructed between the first two notes with four half tones being the distance. Three half tones follow between the second and third notes. This is reversed in the minor chords. An interval of four half tones follows three half tones. The seven chord that has four notes is a popular chord for the piano. It is made up of an interval of four half tones. Three half tone intervals follow then there are three half tone intervals. E-G sharp-B-D is what makes up E7. The ability to construct all the basic chords of the piano and play your favorite tunes in a matter of weeks is yours if you have these basic rules in mind.
